"Web of Lies" is the first segment of the fourteenth episode of the second season of The Ghost and Molly McGee, and the sixty-fifth episode overall.
It premiered on August 12, 2023 simultaneously on Disney Channel and Disney XD, alongside "Kenny's Falling Star".[1]
Synopsis[]
Molly and Scratch spiral with guilt when they think they've killed Darryl's spider.[1]
Plot[]
Molly is washing dishes while Scratch is casually sitting back when Darryl suddenly comes out of the basement in a panic and demands that neither of them go down there. After he leaves, Molly and Scratch attempt to ignore the basement, but are too overwhelmed by the mystery behind Darryl's warning. The two of them go down and find some bubble wrap which the two happily begin to pop for "seven awesome minutes". Just as they are about to leave, Molly steps on something and finds what appears to be the carcass of Heidi Hairylegs, Darry's pet spider. Believing that she accidentally killed her, she and Scratch resolve to hide the evidence.
Molly and Scratch take Heidi's body and put it in a shoebox before digging a hole at night and putting the shoebox, rather pathetically, into the ground. They give a eulogy and opt to never bring up the incident ever again. However, the two are unable to sleep and Darryl begins to question where Heidi is. Molly and Scratch try to carry on their day as if nothing happened, but they are constantly haunted by, what they believe to be, the white ghostly apparition of Heidi. Believing that she has come back from the dead to haunt them, Molly and Scratch decide to dig up Heidi's body and bury it far away from them.
After searching long and hard, Molly and Scratch find the shoebox just as Darryl comes out looking for them. Molly stalls and claims that Heidi went on vacation to Centipede Town and that she will be back at some point. Darryl seems to accept this explanation until the white skinned Heidi crawls onto his shoulder, scaring Molly and Scratch who confess to what they did. Darryl reveals that Heidi is not dead and that she simply molted. The bubble wrap was so that Heidi could be comfortable and the "carcass" was simply Heidi's old skin. Molly and Scratch are relieved as Darryl leaves, only for Scratch to accidentally kill a bird, forcing Molly to get the shoebox again.
