"Twin Trouble" is the second segment of the thirteenth episode of the first season of The Ghost and Molly McGee, and the twenty-sixth episode overall.
Synopsis
Dad struggles to stay true to himself when his twin siblings come to visit.
Plot
Pete gets terrible news that his older twin siblings, Billy and Jilly, are coming to visit. The two of them have a terrible habit of humiliating him by calling him "Silly McGee" and unintentionally bullying him. Sharon tries to prepare him, but it is too late as the twins arrive to torment him. Darryl immediately takes to the two, while Molly and Scratch see that as being very intrusive and inconsiderate. When Pete tries to show his accomplishments, they mock him nonetheless. Suddenly, a small adorable ghost appears which Scratch frighteningly identifies as a Sobgoblin, small ghosts that feed on sadness and despair. The more of it there is, the more they multiply.
Darryl begins to pick up some of Billy and Jilly's habits and asks why they call Pete "Silly". The twins reveal that all of their names end with "-illy" and Pete's did not. When he passed on going to a game with them due to going to ice skating practice, they thought it was silly of him and thus the name stuck; making Pete sadder. Molly decides to use her box of sad things to attract the Sobgoblins up to her room. The ploy works as the Sobgoblins rise up into the attic. When Molly reveals her ruse, the Sobgoblins take on a more horrific form and do battle with her and Scratch. Molly manages to deplete some of them with her positivity, but she is overwhelmed by a cat poster and cries.
Pete gets sadder and sadder as the family eat out. Soon, Sharon and Molly succumb to the Sobgoblins, much to Scratch's horror. However, when Pete sees Darryl emulating the twins' behavior on Molly, he finally snaps and angrily berates them for being troublesome to him. That makes them sob, admitting that they think of Pete as being a big success, as he has a high paying job and a family. The Sobgoblins are about to drain them, but Pete forgives them. The twins apologize for how they treated him over the years and the entire family hugs to finally rid the Sobgoblins, much to Scratch's pleasure. The moment is made awkward when the Mayor suddenly passes by and sees them.

Trivia
- According to the credits, this was one of the first two episodes to have been produced in 2022, along with "Innocent Until Proven Ghostly".
- This episode introduces sobgoblins, the very name of which is a combination of "sob" and "hobgoblins". They are a subspecies of ghost that feed off depression (which may or may not be a factor in the Ghost Council's use of misery meters) as well as make the sad feelings of a depressed person contagious. They can only be defeated if their main victim owns up to having a problem and starts on the road to emotional recovery.
Continuity
- Billy can be seen in Pete's flashback in the episode "Ice Princess", where he calls Pete "Silly" and laughs at him when he crashes into the side of the skating rink.
Allusions
- Pokémon - When Scratch explains Sobgoblins to Molly, a playing card appears similar to Pokémon trading cards, yet it appears in a manner similar to a spirit's introduction in Yo-Kai Watch (which has similar themes to Pokémon). When Scratch and Molly actually battle the sobgoblins, the background music sounds strikingly similar to the battle music in a Nintendo Pokémon video game.
- Super Mario Bros. - The sound effect when Scratch kicks a sobgoblin during their fight is from the Super Mario Bros. game series, specifically when an item comes out of a block after it has been hit.
- The Exorcist /Beetlejuice - Scratch offers to scare Billy and Jilly away by twisting his head around, claiming that he did not steal this from a movie. He did, as it is from The Exorcist or Beetlejuice. If the latter, it might also be where he got the idea of adding bulging eyeballs, as there are tons of references to ghostly shape-shifting.
