Sonia Davis is a character who appears in the episode "Ice Princess".
She was an ice skater until she died, and her ghost haunted Brighton pond every four years during the Global Games after she failed to win a gold medal at the 1954 Global Games, which ruined her career as a skater.
Appearance[]
Physical appearance[]
Sonia is a small blue ghost with pale green eyes in large almond shaped shadows with slight wrinkles underneath, she also has long thin legs and eyelashes. She has a small purple nose. Her hair is tied upwards with a round part at the front and a pointy high up part at the back.
Clothing[]
Sonia has a small dark blue choker around her neck, a v-neck shirt like thing on her torso with two ridged short sleeves all colored the same color as the rest of her body. She also dons a dark blue skirt that is point and ruffled. She also wears a pair of ice skates.
Personality[]
Sonia Davis is known to be a perfectionist. From the way she judges her own skating and that of others, right down to the punctuality that comes with haunting Brighton Pond every four years. Causing "The Curse of the Ice Princess" on the exact day the Global Games begin. She takes skating very seriously, and only considers those with actual skill on the ice worthy of being on "(her) ice", let alone pair-skating with her. Beneath the frozen and frightening surface, however, Sonia is slowly revealed to have a gentle and polite personality, though that side of her only comes out in bits and pieces on account of her violent mood swings.
History[]
In 1954, Back before the internet, people watched figure skating both in person and on TV for entertainment, especially during the Global Games every four years. Sonia Davis, a local girl from Brighton, was one of the best figure skaters. And was not only good enough to earn herself her nickname "The Ice Princess", but also to earn herself a spot as a finalist in said Global Games. Seeing the event as her chance to be remembered forever, and prove herself to the world, Sonia was going for the gold metal. Unfortunately, when she fell on her last triple axle, braking her left skate which earned her a zero from all three of them.
After Sonia eventually passed away, every four years during the Global Games, her ghost has been haunting Brighton Pond, causing her self-loathing and frustration to manifest as a huge storm in the process that shuts down the entire city. A storm that became known as "The Curse of the Ice Princess", which shrouded her very existence into a local myth. It wasn't until she met the newly moved-in McGee family, and performs a pair skating routine with Pete "Blades" McGee. That on the anniversary of her humiliation that she was able to move on with her afterlife, as she had enough fun in spite of a fumbled finish to realized that she lost something more valuable than a gold metal: her love of the sport.
Later during "Molly Vs. The Ghost World", Sonia is brought in during Scratch's trial to testify against him. Though she likely didn't mean any harm, her testimony pointed towards Scratch helping to spread joy to others, which went against the Chairman's wishes.
Relationships[]
Molly McGee[]
She seems to recognize Molly as a sweet girl, as they were able to talk through the problem of her haunting freezing Brighton well enough for them to figure out a solution. Unfortunately, Molly isn't very experienced on the ice, and had naively thought she'd learn a lifetime of skating techniques in a single day, much to the confusion and annoyance of Sonia. Who thus wouldn't allow Molly on the ice, though it was enough for Sonia to humor Molly by allowing her (and Scratch) to act as announcer to their simulation of the Global Games.
Scratch[]
Much like many other ghosts, Sonia doesn't like Scratch very much on account of his rudeness. Particularly when he didn't sugarcoat his feelings about her storms shutting down Brighton, as he bluntly told her to "get on with her afterlife". To that end, Sonia shows no remorse towards pinning Scratch with her ice shards, even after he yells at her claiming that doing that to him hurts him despite the fact he's already dead. Even so, she bore no ill will towards Scratch when he (and Molly) acted as announcer to their simulation of the Global Games.
In "Molly Vs. The Ghost World" when Sonia was brought toward The Ghost Council to testify on Scratch, she told them that Scratch helped her realize her Global Games dream, revealing that she likes him more and sees him possibly as a friend.
Pete "Blades" McGee[]
As Pete told Sonia while showing off his rusty yet still impressive moves: "Game Recognizes Game"; much like Sonia, Pete also endured humiliation during a figure skating contest in the past, but unlike her, he hid himself away instead of risking life itself trying to improve. Being kindred spirits upon the ice, Sonia agreed to be skating partners with "Blades", but not without letting her mood swings get the better of her. As she threatened to cover Brighton in ice forever if they were anything less than perfect, putting the pressure on him. While the pain in his heels caused them to mess up the big finish in their routine, which caused her to become momentarily furious. Sonia had enough fun in the process of pair skating that she laughed off the mistake and realize that her love of the sport was more valuable to her, and she thanked him for reminding her of that.
