Ruben Chen is a supporting character in The Ghost and Molly McGee. He is Esther Chen's husband and the father of Ollie and June Chen.

Ruben is a Chinese-American[1] man, with short dark brown hair. He wears a white button-down shirt under a purple jacket, grey jeans with a black belt, and brown boots with grey highlights.
Personality[]
Ruben is a well-meaning but misguided father, who loves his family yet is overly stubborn. He is extremely prejudiced towards ghosts with a burning hatred, and believes all ghosts are evil without any wriggle room. He is also a showboat and wants to prove to everyone about his efforts on ghost-hunting, yet is extremely stereotypical and narrow-minded about different kinds of ghosts such as Frightmares which usually leads himself and his family into grave danger.
History[]
When he was around Ollie's age, he used to play video games, and was just blowing dust out of the console for another round in the middle of the night when someone or something terrified him, which he is certain up to date is a ghost. Not wanting what happened to him to happen to anyone else, he trained himself and his family in ghost hunting in an effort to get rid of ghosts, and oddly started a web show to prove the family's "heroics" as they travel cross-country for work, which very few actually watch and those who have seen it brushed off as a joke by the time the Chen family settle down in Brighton.

Trivia[]
- When not hunting ghosts, he makes a living and a hobby out of brewing his own root beer.
- It is implied that his side business of running a brewery funds his ghost researching. Had the series continued for a third season, an episode titled "UpROOTing the Chens" would have had him get financial backing from Dorothea Davenport to open a brewery full time.
- Ruben brewing root beer full time is hinted at to still happen in The End, as a paused video from the Chens' MeTube channel can be seen on one of June's monitors with the words "Root Beer Career!?" on the paused frame.
