Physical Appearance[]

Pete McGee - render

Pete is middle-aged, fair-skinned Irish-American man who is taller than most characters, with black eyes, short copper hair and beard, and wrinkles on his forehead and under his eyes. He also has a rather large nose.

Attire[]

Pete wears a dark green sweater over a light blue collared shirt, a watch on his right wrist, stone-washed jeans and dark navy shoes with white laces and brown soles.

Personality[]

Pete can be described as anxiously optimistic, as shown when he was nervous about his daughter's opinion on their new home, but was overjoyed when she liked the place. He can also be described as accepting, as he let Molly befriend the strange ghost living in their attic, because Molly reminded him that the McGee's don't view people how they are on the outside, "Shouldn't we do the same for ghosts?".[2] He also tends to jump to conclusions and even get ahead of himself, as the thought of one day becoming a grandpa kept him from taking a picture for his kids first day of middle school. Apparently, he is a talented DJ when given the chance, yet his love of smooth jazz is considered an embarrassment to Molly except when it's needed for a slow dance.

Background[]

During Pete's childhood, he was often bullied by his eldest brother and sister, giving him trauma from them. He grew up very smart, accomplished, and proficient that it made his siblings jealous of him. His siblings would frequently make fun of his name, it being different from the rest of his family, who all has "illy" supporting the end of their names. They'd end up to title him "Silly McGee" due to the name Pete not being similar to of theirs.

When he was fifteen, he used to be an aspiring figure skater, until when he was at a Regionals skating competition and couldn't land his final jump, causing him to crash through an advertisement for a toilet and being humiliating after being insulted by his brother, Pete had decided to give up skating.

Later in his adult years, he had met Sharon during a cooking class, and they fell in love with each other when she pretended to enjoy his crumb-cake to spare his feelings, leading him to believe for years that it was "love at first bite" when the cake had nothing to do with their feelings for each other. Afterwards, Pete and Sharon eloped on a rural farm, and he had Molly and Darryl with her. Over the years, he and his family had to move around the United States due to his job being a city planner. Finally, Pete and the family decided to reside in the small town of Brighton.

When Pete and the family moved into their new house, they met Scratch, a grumpy ghost, whom his daughter, Molly, decided to be best friends with. After his first interaction with Scratch, Pete was quick to want to evacuate the house, yelling to leave everything and get out. He was later tamed down by Molly, who introduced the new supernatural friend. Pete nervously welcomes Scratch and embarrassing himself due to his awkwardness. ("The Curse")

Trivia[]

  • Despite having a name, the credits simply list him as "Dad".
    • Sharon also has the same issue, where she is simply referred to as just "Mom".
  • He is the only one of his siblings to have a name that does not end with "illy".
  • According to Billy and Jilly, Pete was born in September.[1]
  • He is left handed.[3]
  • He is hypersensitive to spices; even those in the air can make him have sensory overload.[4]
  • Pete can also teleport, but only does so for gags. The clearest instance of this is in Dance Dad Revolution when he thinks the family has thrown him a surprise party, where he stays in frame while he teleports. Every other time he teleports, he runs off camera before popping up in a completely different place.
    • This isn't an ability since it's only done for comedy, and is likely just an exaggeration of him running around with high energy.
