"Molly Vs. The Ghost World" is the second segment of the twentieth and final episode of the first season of The Ghost and Molly McGee, and the fortieth episode overall.
This episode takes place after the events of it's sister episode "The Jig is Up".
Synopsis
When Scratch is taken to the Ghost World for trial, Molly sets out to save him.[3]
Plot
The McGees are all nervous about the fate of Scratch, but Molly invites Libby over in an effort to try and perform astral projection, but to no avail. They then summon Geoff by once again misspelling his name, but he is too scared to bring Molly to the Ghost Realm. Determined, Molly then attempts to jump through his portal, only to suddenly find herself in her own ghostly form after being ejected from her body. She has become a wraith, someone who is not dead, but their still living body is a soulless husk who has no motivation for anything. Geoff takes Molly to find Scratch, but discovers that due to her immense joy, everything she touches suddenly turns nice and colorful.
Scratch is put on trial by the Council whom they determine as been part of the joy spreading; made much more apparent when Sonia Davis and Howlin' Harriet corroborate his actions. Jinx is made aware of Molly's presence and sets out to look for her with the Sobgoblins. They chase Molly and Geoff, the latter of whom accidentally causes flowers to grow from Jinx's hair, as she rushes off to the Council to rescue her friend. She manages to make it and tells the Council off by telling them how their goal of spreading misery is false and how she has come to save Scratch. Jinx is revealed to have captured Geoff who is promptly send to the Flow of Failed Phantoms.
After Scratch makes an impassioned speech about her friendship with Molly, the Council decides not to separate the two... by sending both to the Flow. Just before the two are sucked in, Scratch tells Molly that meeting her was "the highlight of his afterlife". However, Molly's joy is so overwhelming that it causes all the other ghosts who were sent to the Flow of Failed Phantoms, including Geoff, to suddenly fall out and become free. Molly and Scratch break out, as the former flies up to the Chairman and disintegrates him with a single touch. Having saved themselves and the afterlife as a whole, Molly and Scratch return to the Land of the Living, to find Libby still creeped out by Molly's husk. Molly returns to her body just as her family comes upstairs to her room and Scratch happily embraces his family and new freedom.

Trivia
- This episode's title card features new character drawings for Molly and Scratch.
- The ghost code of living and dead can't be friends, which is a serious charge.
- This is the final episode to air in 2022.
- This marks the first time Molly appears as a wraith-ghost.
- This episode introduces wraiths, when a human gives up the ghost, they then become what is known in spirit history as a wraith. This may also occur when a mortal uses a ghost portal. Wraiths can exist in the mortal and ghost world. A living person who has literally given up the ghost however, their body is still alive.
- This also leads to a theory suggesting that Scratch is actually a wraith himself of Todd, given that they bear a striking resemblance to one another and are both voiced by Dana Snyder. Whether or not this theory is confirmed is yet to be determined.
- It shown in the Ghost World, joy is poison. Yet while there are complaints about the resulting flowers, fireworks, and butterflies among many of the locals, there are also several ghosts who consider the effects of joy to be an improvement to the Ghost World... provided they don't "catch a cold" from the cheerful energy, of course.
- A few ghosts of real people are seen, Marie Antoinette is beheaded, which including the Ghost of FDR. Ghost carrying on any injuries they have when alive.
- Thanks to Molly, The Flow of Failed Phantoms no longer exists, causing all of the ghosts to return to the Ghost World, and the Chairman is also dead.[4]
- Early concept art almost shows Molly, in her human form, confronting the Chairman and the council in the Ghost World. However, the final version almost exactly has that but with Molly in her Wrath form.
Continuity
- Molly enters the ghost world for the first time (in which reveals that humans can't go to the ghost world).
- Scratch told the ghost council he and Molly are cursed together in which he cursed himself from the beginning "The Curse" (but it was broken in "Home is Where the Haunt Is").
- Some of the ghost witnesses appear from "Howlin' Harriet", "Not So Honest Abe", and "Ice Princess".
- When Molly destroys the Flow of Failed Phantoms, the first ghost released was the same ghost sent to the Flow at the beginning of "The Curse".
