Libby Stein-Torres is a recurring character of The Ghost and Molly McGee. She is a Argentinian-German-American Jewish[1][2][3] 13-year-old girl who's best friends with Molly McGee.
History[]
Early life[]
Libby was born to Leah Stein-Torres and Matias Torres. Her maternal great-grandparents were a German Jewish couple who survived the Holocaust and World War II after emigrating from their native country to New York, US following the events of Kristallnacht in November 1938.[4] Libby was raised Jewish,[2] preserving several family traditions such as celebrating Hanukkah.[4]
Once, when Libby was in first grade, she accidentally called Andrea Davenport, the most popular girl in school, "Anne-drea", and due to Andrea's influence, she became an outcast until the events of the show.[5] Despite being an outcast, she was a guest at Andrea's third grade sleepover, only to end up humiliated further via a bed wetting incident that she'd never live down.
Season 1[]
In "First Day Frights", Libby meets new student Molly McGee, who several times also misspoken Andrea's name, and after sitting next to her, Libby tells her about her own history with Andrea, although Libby refuses to interact with Molly any further since she thinks she almost have Andrea worn down. Later, when Scratch possesses Andrea's body, makes a declaration that people can pronounce her name, however, they want and that Libby (and Molly) deserve better treatment, making everyone cheer for Libby to her happiness.
In "Scratch the Surface", she became suspicious of Molly, since she was acting weird when trying to hide Scratch's existence.
She instantly sees through Molly's "Milly" persona, and tries to get her to break by having Molly do things that she hates, like eat maple syrup and watch street magic.
After trying and failing to confront Molly at home, Libby ends up chasing her and Scratch around town, until finally catching up to them in the park. Initially, Libby accuses Molly of being under the control of an Eastern Canadian brain slug, but when that theory is obviously shut down, she comes to the conclusion Molly doesn't want to be her friend anymore and goes to leave.
However, before she can, Molly stops her and Scratch reveals himself. Libby then faints from shock and the episode ends.

Physical appearance[]
Libby is a rather tall, Argentinian-German-American Jewish[1][2][3] teen girl with dark brown eyes and long, waist-length, slightly messy olive-brown hair.
Clothing[]
Libby wears a long, mint-green turtleneck sweater with darker-colored accents, olive-green pants with a torn on the left knee, and dark, bluish-gray hiking boots.
Personality[]
Libby is an kind-hearted, outgoing, eccentric, and geeky introvert girl. She’s seen as an outcast at school due to her mispronouncing Andrea's name on her first day, which caused her to be somewhat distant from her classmates. She can be a bit shy sometimes, which is especially shown in "Mazel Tov, Libby!" where she is also revealed to hate big crowds, hence why she only invited Molly to her Bat Mitzvah. She is also quite clumsy often, tripping and dropping stuff.
In "Monumental Disaster" and "Scratch the Surface", Libby is revealed to be a bit of a conspiracy theorist, calling herself things like "an agent of truth" or "the bloodhound of truth", as she makes it her business to know all the town's secrets, including the secret door to the town's library archives, which contains the only copy of "The Real History of Brighton" and the revised song that goes with it. On top of uncovering more accurate history, she's also interested in investigating supernatural occurrences, though her theories-- even with evidence-- aren't always correct, as she thought Molly's odd behavior was the result of being infected with an East Canadian Brain Slug, mistaking Scratch's ectoplasm for slug slime. She faints upon learning that ghosts are real, and wastes no time documenting it in her audio logbook after she recovers. Though she makes it her business to know the truth about everything, Libby can be trusted with a secret, as she only reveals her discoveries of the book and record that reveals that Ezekiel Tugbottom is a fraud when Molly was suspicious of him as well, and didn't tell anyone else before or since.
Although mostly an introvert, "Friend-Off" demonstrates her more brutally honest side and a rarely shown side of her confidence, proven by how she manages to retort Scratch multiple times when they fight over being Molly's best friend.
Abilities[]
Libby's good at embroidery, being able to make artificial toes to appear life-like to Howlin' Harriet and is an expert at telling scary stories. She also wrote the movie for Molly in "Hooray for Mollywood!", where she was also cast as the lead of the film, although she expresses that she does not like performing. Although she has a bad singing voice, she's good at beat poetry as shown in "Talent Show". She's an expert tracker as shown in "Scratch the Surface". A number of times, she's revealed to be well-versed in the history of Brighton. In "Friend-Off", she's creative enough to turn a pile of turnips into a rope. In "Molly Vs. The Ghost World", she’s shown to have some knowledge about spiritual transcendence, as she attempts to help Molly transform into a ghost.
In "Carbon Zero Heroes", Libby reveals her creative talent to take on more dangerous extremes as she had prepped for a zombie apocalypse via a bunker under the bookstore, several items (helmets, blankets, toys, etc.) being zombie-proofed with retractable spikes, a toy gun being modified to shoot nets instead of foam darts, and she's even made her own musk so she can hunt raccoons for sustenance.

Trivia[]
- Much like Molly, Libby has a mixed ethnic background, and is stated to have German and Latina heritage with Jewish roots. Bill Motz confirmed in a Q&A on Discord that Libby's Latin heritage is indeed Argentinian.[1]
- Libby's surnames represent her Jewish heritage. Stein is a traditional German and Ashkenazi Jewish surname, representing her German-Jewish roots as well; Torres is a Catalan, Spanish, and Portuguese surname with Sephardic Jewish origins, being a common surname in Hispanic Jewish families (in turn referring to her Latin-Jewish heritage).
- She is the only main character to not be part of the McGee family.
- Libby claims that she's a terrible singer (though she wasn't even aware of it officially until Molly finally told her the truth about it), yet she writes her own lyrics which convert rather smoothly into beat poetry.[6]
- In "Scary Holiday Song", Molly gives Libby a cat for Hanukkah.
- She's revealed to have motion sickness in "It's Always Sunny in Sunnyland".
- A running gag has her constantly getting physically harmed in some way, often times with plastic bags.
- She's a doomsday prepper.
- As wraiths, she and Darryl both have green ectoplasm. However, unlike Darryl, who's color was brightened by Molly's golden joy energy due to their sibling bond, Libby's ectoplasm is a darker shade of green. The out-of-universe reason is likely because green is associated with Libby as a character due to her sweater and her love of turtles.
