"Jinx vs. The Human World" is the twentieth episode of the second season of The Ghost and Molly McGee, the penultimate episode of the show, and the seventy-seventh episode overall.

It premiered on January 13, 2024 on Disney Channel and Disney XD simultaneously, alongside "The End".[1]

Synopsis[]

Molly and Scratch must find a way to stop Jinx from taking over the human world, but they need Ruben's help.[1]

Plot[]

Molly and Scratch are happily spending the day painting their ghost shark. Molly suddenly asks Scratch if it is okay for him to be away from the Ghost World as he is technically still the Chairman, but Scratch reveals that he has thought of that. Back in the Ghost World, Scratch has left his cloak, motorized to simply approve and disapprove things at random, which the rest of the Ghost Council does not seem to notice. Jinx arrives claiming that she wants to simply talk to Scratch, but once the Council leaves, she attempts to attack Scratch, only to realize that it is only his cloak. She gleefully takes it with the intent to take over the Ghost realm, resuming the spread of misery as well as the Flow of Failed Phantoms. With the Ghost World under attack, Geoff and Jeff flee to the Human world to tell Scratch what has transpired, much to his horror, but Geoff and Molly assures him that they will defeat Jinx again (the latter suggested they use the same technique of joy they used on the original Chairman). They recruit, Libby, Darryl, Ollie, and June, the latter of whom is looking for Spectranium 283 for an experiment. The kids are all turned into wraiths with their bodies shoved into a trunk and they venture into the Ghost World which has been overrun by Sobgoblins. Molly is immediately captured in a trap set by Jinx who, due to constantly being joyful, is used as a battery. She then plans to take over the Human realm. At Molly's insistence, Scratch and the rest of the kids managed to return home. Back in the Ghost Realm, Molly's joy is sapped up by the Sobgoblins severely weakening her. To buy her friends more time, she tries to be sad to cut off the joy supply. Meanwhile, her friends try to figure out a way to save the human world, but without Molly and her helpful spirit it would be impossible to take on Jinx and the Sobgoblins. Darryl in the meantime was moving to somewhere undisclosed. While everyone else was losing hope, Scratch stated that they can't give up as Molly wouldn't. After inspiration from Libby, he gets the idea of ghost hunters, so Ollie and June reluctantly decide to recruit their parents to help them battle Jinx, introducing Geoff as a good ghost, but Ruben reveals that Geoff was the ghost that scared him as a child. After a long monotonous dialogue of depression, Jinx managed to reignite Molly's joy using online media, letting the Sobgoblins to grow bigger from her joy. As Ruben explained his history with Geoff, Geoff in turn reveals that he simply sneezed because Ruben accidentally blew dust in his face. At Scratch's insistence, despite Ruben still not trusting ghosts, he and Esther agree to help defeat Jinx. After the Sobgoblins power up from draining Molly's joy, Jinx leaves with them to invade the human world. The Chens try to fight back, their weapons are no match and their joy is drained. Scratch stated that as long as Jinx has the robe, he agrees with Molly's body that everything is doomed. Back in the ghost world, the remaining Ghost Council (who preferred Scratch as Chairman over Jinx) come to Molly's aid. Molly asks if there is anything nice they can remember about Scratch and the Council admits that they miss him and his antics. This empowers Molly back into being joyful and she freed herself from her cage and destroys the Flow of Failed Phantoms again, freeing the other ghosts. Jinx and the empowered Sobgoblins continue to attack Brighton, warping the town into their own image. They prepare to finish everyone off, but Molly and the ghosts return to help them. After noticing that the Sobgoblins were overeating, Scratch come up with a plan, continue to feed the Sobgoblins with joy. Everyone shares their joy with each other, resulting in the Sobgoblins getting large and exploding. Jinx attempts to retaliate when Molly and Scratch unleash their secret weapon: the Ghost Shark tears the cloak away from Jinx, who gets assaulted by the Chens, but she portals behind them and proceeds to attack Ruben. He tell June to activate the Phantom Canister, but it still doesn't work without the Spectranium 283. Darryl arrives with the Spectranium at the last minute, empowering the Canister which they use on Jinx, trapping her away and undoing all her effects to Brighton. Jeff finally admits that Scratch is a good chairman, but Scratch decides to use his powers to send the cloak away to someone who is more than capable to handle the job. The Chens finally accept ghosts as friends as both humans and ghosts celebrate their victory.

Trivia[]

  • This episode and "The End" are the only episodes to air in 2024, which means that the show lasted just over 2 years.
  • This is the final episode of the series to have a title card.
  • It is revealed the ghost who scared Ruben was Geoff.
  • Due to the fact the next episode is the series finale, this episode left off on an unresolved cliffhanger due to the fact we never knew who the Chairman robe chose as the new leader of the Ghost World. Had the series continued for another season as planned, the Chairman robe chose Ollie as the host.
    • This episode was intended to be the second season finale initially, but due to the cancellation of the series, an additional episode had to be ordered to give the series a proper closure.
  • This episode parallels "The Jig is Up" and "Molly Vs. The Ghost World" in many ways:
    • The names of the latter segment of the season 1 finale and this episode are similar in that it states the name of a major character and their enemy using "versus".
    • The season 1 finale first contains a song relatively from Jinx's perspective, and this episode contains a song entirely from Jinx's perspective.
    • The following songs from both episodes are about Molly (and later her allies) defeating Jinx and her Sobgoblins.
    • Both Molly and Scratch are separated early in both episodes, and are later reunited, both directly because of Molly.
    • The occupant of the Chairman position changes during both episodes.
    • The Flow of Failed Phantoms is vanquished in both episodes.
    • And lastly, previously unseen wraith forms of main/supporting characters are revealed in both episodes.
  • This episode marks the final appearance of the following characters:
    • Jinx (obviously)
    • Ruben
    • Esther
    • Jeff
