Howlin' Harriet is a minor character from The Ghost and Molly McGee. She was a female human who died when was chased by the people of Brighton and got struck by a train, causing her to lose her toes. After she died, she took on a demented uncontrollable form caused by her anger for an unknown amount of years until Molly McGee and Libby Stein-Torres got her a new set of toes, putting her at peace.
Personality[]
Harriet seems to be a kind soul, despite being a criminal, with her appearing grateful for her new toes and being so happy that she ends up being freed from her "corrupted" form.
Appearance[]
Howlin' Harriet is a tall, slender ghost, whose body is a pale green color, with a lighter inner glow. She has light yellow-green eyes with long green eyelashes on top of a black eye mask. She is one of few ghosts who has a humanoid body type, with a neck and torso, along with legs. Her torso ends with a skirt, with her legs underneath. She doesn't wear any shoes or socks, and she has four toes on each foot. She has a long, slender nose that is colored a shade of cilantro green that fades into a darker shade. Her ectoplasm hair is styled into a short haircut above her shoulders, that open with curtain bangs.
Corrupted Form[]
When Howlin' Harriet is corrupted, her form is completely different from her healed look. Her ectoplasm is pitch black, with a few speckles of green at her shoulders, the end of her dress, and the tips of her hair. She has lime green eyes with no pupils, underneath her eyes are a set of jagged wrinkles the same color as her eyes. Her hair angles upwards, with jagged ends, and in her hair are multiple twigs that are the same color as the speckles on her body. Her dress appears tattered and torn at the ends, her feet are barely out of the bottom, and on her right foot her toes are gone, which is the source of her corruption.
Human Form[]
When Harriet was alive, she had no out of the ordinary features compared to other humans. Her skin had rosy-pale skin and a thin body type, she also had a long chin. She had curly brown hair that was styled in a bob cut above the shoulders that is styled with curtain bangs. She had tall almond shaped eyes, that were deep green. Her nose angled downwards and ended in a point. Her shirt was a pale pink button up with long sleeves that were puffed at the shoulders, and had a collar with a button in the middle which flayed downwards. She had a long deep blue skirt that covered her feet, and over top the skirt, Harriet wore a long white apron with a sewn brown patch and a sewn on light brown patch.
Powers and Abilities[]
Howlin' Harriet seems to have all the standard ghost abilities.
She also seems to have a positive connection with spirit animals, (unlike Scratch, who gets attacked by animals that are aware of his presence) as we see her immediately befriend some ghost birds when she is healed. Although, this connection may be limited to ghost animals.
Weaknesses[]
While Howlin' Harriet is “corrupted” her ghost abilities seem to be limited. She is unable to shape-shift and alter her form, likely caused by her losing a body part when she died, making her body “incomplete”. She also seemed to be unable to make herself invisible, as she probably would have done so to steal a set of toes a lot sooner.
Though, she may not have used these abilities because she either didn't feel like using them, for whatever reason, or she forgot/didn't think of these powers due to her mental state while corrupted. As such, while corrupted, she was very single-minded; only interested in getting toes, making her very easily distracted.
Even after healing, Harriet is unable to communicate with others beyond generic ghost noises, meaning she is possibly unable to place curses onto people or her environment. It is possible that The Ghost Council understand her, with Lucretia telling Harriet that, she "couldn't have said it better herself” after she gave her statement at Scratch's trial in Molly Vs. The Ghost World. Although this could be simply because Lucretia wanted Harriet to stop talking and get off the stand due to her and none of the other Ghost Council members understanding her.
There is a possibility that if Harriet were to somehow lose her toes again, she might become re-corrupted, however this has yet to be confirmed.
History[]
When she was alive, Harriet was a criminal in Brighton many, many years ago, around the time Sally Tugbottom rebuilt Brighton.[1] The crime she committed was "selling uncured salami, on a Wednesday", and rather than the town arresting Harriet and putting her on trial, they chased her out of town, which led to her death by getting ran over by an oncoming train when she tripped on the tracks.[2]
After Molly and Libby work together to make Harriet new toes and Harriet is freed from her corrupted form, Harriet gleefully basks in the euphoria of her new toes, and floats back off into the woods with a few bird friends in tow.[2] In "Not So Honest Abe", she is seen at the café Scratch and Geoff frequent.
