Main Information

"Getting the Band(shell) Back Together" is the first segment of the third episode of the first season of The Ghost and Molly McGee, and the fifth episode overall.

On October 6, 2021, this episode was released early on Disney+ (along with the second part to it). It officially premiered on October 9, 2021 on Disney Channel.

Synopsis

When Molly learns about Brighton’s old outdoor concert Bandshell, she sets out to rebuild it to bring the community together.[5]

Plot

The McGees take Scratch to the Brighton retirement home, much to his displeasure (he thought they were going to get tacos at a taco convention). They explain to him that they do volunteer work together as a way to bond with one another, which Scratch finds disgusting. Despite his efforts, the McGees force him to at least participate as an observer. Sharon teaches aerobics, Pete takes part in being a census taker, Darryl and Scratch play poker and Molly befriends Patty who recalls Brighton's exquisite structure, the bandshell, which was destroyed in a hurricane in '79 years ago. Feeling sympathetic, Molly decides that she will do everything in her power to get it rebuilt, despite the city feeling it is unnecessary.

The McGees go to Pete's workplace at townhall where Molly presents her project of a rebuilt bandshell to the Mayor. She initially presents an over the top expensive superdome, but reveals that she simply wants to build a smaller more personal one to make the budget distinct. Despite their sympathy, they ultimately turn her down. Molly gets the idea to collect money and she and Darryl go door to door. Then, Scratch arrives with a bag full of money, only for Molly to realize he robbed a bank and told him to take it back at once as they heard sirens.

Back at the McGee's house, they count the money and they manage to rake in enough money to buy the supplies, but not to pay for workers or construction. Indirectly by Scratch, she gets the idea to suggest a community day to everyone in Brighton and puts up flyers all over town.

On the Community Day, nobody shows up severely disappointing Molly and causing Scratch to gloat, though he quickly becomes disappointed by her reaction. Suddenly, the seniors show up and in return for their visit decide to help them rebuild the bandshell. Soon, other Brighton residents, including Molly's friends arrive and decide to help out too.

Just Give

Libby and her friends arrive to help.

Soon, the bandshell is finally rebuilt with Patty thanking Molly and saying how happy she is to see everyone working and communicating together; exactly what she felt the bandshell did. The Mayor congratulates Molly on her success, but wonders who is going to play. Darryl plays his obnoxitron (which he played throughout the episode), much to Molly's annoyance and Scratch's enjoyment.

Trivia

  • This episode already aired on DisneyNOW on Oct 6, 2021 by accident.
  • Libby and Kat appear in this episode, but have no dialogue.
  • Scratch reveals that he has no last name.
  • A character dies and is then brought back to life by Scratch.
  • It is subtly revealed that a ghost's abilities can somehow be enhanced with time, as Scratch had trouble tipping over a chair at Town Hall close to the beginning of the episode, then manages to carry a bag of money he stolen from a credit union all the way to Molly, and then finally, he becomes strong enough to lift an old man carrying bricks. Despite this, Scratch admits in later episodes that he's out of shape, even by ghost standards.
