Geoff is a major supporting character from The Ghost and Molly McGee. He is a ghost who is Scratch's best friend.
Personality[]
Geoff is a happy-go-lucky ghost who wants to help Scratch as much as he possibly can. Like Molly McGee, he's an optimist. He also seems to have an ego of some sorts, saying that he's "great at getting into character" in "Not So Honest Abe". (Though Geoff pretending that he's Abraham Lincoln for much longer backfires, as Molly gets incorrect information about Lincoln from him and embarrasses herself in school) Geoff also seems to be quite dim-witted, believing that Abraham Lincoln used to teach bears how to polka.
Despite his stupidity, Geoff is far from naive, as he is more then aware of the dangers the Ghost World has to offer, as demonstrated in "The Turnip Twist": when Scratch mentions he might be banished to The Flow of Failed Phantoms, Geoff had-- in a moment of awareness and heroic foolhardy-- shown his true full potential in spreading misery just to save his best friend from that horrible fate. He is also able to work with situations well enough that, when he and Scratch played hooky from the Scare seminar, he was able to save them both of them from getting sent to the Flow.
Appearance[]
Like Scratch, Geoff is a teal-colored, slightly transparent ghost. With a large nose, green teeth, yellow sclera, black pupils, a double chin, a large upper lip, and bald except for the hair on the sides of his scalp. Like all ghosts, Geoff is able to morph his body like Scratch into any shape at will.
Powers and Abilities[]
As a ghost, Geoff should possess a myriad of supernatural powers due to the fact Scratch is able to preform the following as well as Geoff being able to use a number of select powers listed.
- Levitation: He can fly and float off the ground.
- Telekinesis: He can move people and objects without touching them.
- Intangibility: He can move through solid objects.
- Invisibility: He can render himself invisible to others, with animals being the most likely exception, because Scratch is seen by animals.
- Shapeshifting: Being made of ectoplasm, he can manipulate his body into any shape he desires. He mainly uses this ability to appear as if he is Abraham Lincoln and can turn into a fully functioning human leg.
- Elasticity: His body and limbs can be stretched seemingly without limit.
- Regeneration: His body is made of a seemingly limitless supply of ectoplasmic goo.
- Curse inducement: He has the ability to curse anyone to be haunted by him for an eternity, but unlike Scratch, he never uses this ability.
- Possession/Overshadowing: He can use human beings and inanimate objects as a vessel, controlling their actions and movements,
- Invulnerability: As he is already dead, poisonous substances should have no effect on him.
- Portal creation: He can create and travel through portals to the ghost world.
- Wraith creation: When Molly jumped through one of Geoff's portals, her body and ghost separated without dying. According to one of Libby's books, these entities are called "wraiths", and are commonly created in such a manner. While she's in wraith form, Geoff can take Molly (or any human if necessary) to the Ghost World with him.
- Teleportation: He can move instantaneously from one location to another in a puff of mist.
- Martial Arts: While protecting Molly's wraith from Sobgoblins, he tied two of them together and used them as nun-chucks.
Weaknesses[]
- Animals should be able see him even if he’s invisible and chase him.
- Geoff tends to forget that he is actually a ghost and thus, in turn, forgets to use certain ghost powers, like when he forgot to go intangible during the Turnip Festival when he got close to one of the snack machines and ended up looking like a vegetable peel until his ectoplasm is corrected, much to Scratch's annoyance.
History[]
In "Howlin' Harriet" Geoff showed up with a "doctored" calendar just to hang out with Scratch (who told the guy they'd hang "on the second Saturday after Never") and ended up introducing himself to Molly, who invited both ghosts to come with her to liven up the Wilder Scouts' camping trip with a good scare. Geoff had the idea of using the Howlin' Harriet campfire story to scare the campers (which Scratch humored, yet thought it was ridiculous) only to have the real Harriet beat them to it looking for replacements for her missing toes. Scratch and Geoff turned themselves into ectoplasmic feet to keep Harriet busy while Libby crafted her some new toes. After this, while taking credit for Harriet's scare on their Scare Reports, Scratch had a slip of the tongue and called Geoff "buddy", much to Geoff's delight and Scratch's embarrassment.
In "Not So Honest Abe", after Scratch lied to Molly about knowing Abraham Lincoln, Geoff was given an ectoplasmic remodeling to pose as the president. Though Scratch was sure it'll only be used for a couple of minutes, Geoff gave into Molly's puppy-dog eyes and played it up for hours, filling her head with false information that almost cost her entire grade.
In "The Turnip Twist", Scratch uses Geoff to sabotage the Turnip Festival in Brighton (which is hosted by Molly), to make its misery level higher and not feel guilty about making Molly's family sad himself.
In "Ready, Set, Snow!", Geoff meets Libby for the first time during a snow day, and ended up joining her, Scratch, and the entire McGee family (minus Molly, who insisted a perfect snow day should be spent playing outside) for a traditional winter hygge with warm blankets and home baked cookies.
In "Innocent Until Proven Ghostly", Geoff unknowingly got Scratch in trouble for eating Sharon's wedding anniversary cake because he thought Pete baked it as a birthday cake for him, even though it really wasn't his birthday and the name "Sharon" was spelled on it instead of "Geoff". Scratch and Molly were not amused.
In "A Very Hungry Ghost", Scratch invites Geoff to a traditional Thailand feast prepared specifically for Hungry Ghosts. Scratch insisted it be kept a secret between the two of them (in an attempt to keep a majority of the feast to himself), but due to a poor use of double negatives, Geoff told everybody he knew, causing a large number of ghosts to fill the McGee family's backyard for the feast. Geoff and the others left when the Ghost Council themselves came for a bite as well.
In "Scare Tactics", he and Scratch played hooky from a Scaring Seminar using jello sculptures for their stand-ins. The two of them got a deep ectoplasm massage with aroma-scareapy, crashed a party at the Haughty Haunts Club, and got kicked out of said club by the Bouncer. Geoff called it "the best skip-day ever" and was confident that breaking the rules will have no consequences, only for them to return to an unexpected pop-quiz on Scaring techniques that is to be supervised by the Chairman of the Ghost Council himself... meaning that all who fail or end up showing they weren't listening will get banished to the Flow of Failed Phantoms! Although he was sure he'd fail because he was given a very advanced technique to demonstrate (and he didn't feel prepared for it), Geoff managed to pull it off because he had his "listening ears on" though all the other annual lectures (as it's the same one every year) and he was naturally "really good at scaring". Scratch, however, didn't have those advantages, so Geoff managed to save his best friend via the half-true statement that Scratch "found an innovative new way to interact with humans" that might give him enough extra credit to pass his class if the human he's interacting with is terrified enough (which, luckily, was the case on account of Molly being home alone with her brother's pet spider). Geoff smiled as he gave Scratch a friendly nudge, quietly insisting he takes advantage of this ghostly miracle.

Trivia[]
- He appears to be the only ghost to like being around Scratch at least until he became Chairman.
- He is the second ghost to have interacted with Molly.
- Originally, Geoff was going to be called Kevin.[1]
- In "A Very Hungry Ghost", Geoff admits that he doesn't handle spicy food very well due to his sensitive stomach, and that his flatulence would literally start a fire if he ate it; how bad the damage would be from that fire has yet to be revealed.
- While posing as Abraham Lincoln in "Not So Honest Abe", Geoff almost blew his cover by honestly admitting he has a middle name (which the real Abraham Lincoln didn't have), and his middle name is Ralph. Geoff's surname, however, has yet to be revealed.
- In "The (After)life of the Party", it was revealed that Geoff is married to another ghost named Jeff, and that the party Scratch was invited was their anniversary party.
- Although the precise cause of Geoff's death remains undisclosed, "The Many Lives of Scratch" provides a subtle clue about his Death Day story, which implied that Geoff's demise was connected to a mishap involving "a vat of chocolate and a floaty malfunction". This suggests that he may have drowned in chocolate due to an incident at a factory caused by a malfunction. However, the specific circumstances surrounding this scenario have not been fully clarified yet.
- In "Jinx vs. The Human World", it was revealed he was the ghost who scared Ruben Chen as a child. However, this was an accident because Ruben blew dust in Geoff's face, something he was allergic to, and the resulting sneeze is what scared him.
