"Double, Double, Darryl & Trouble" is the second segment of the second episode of the second season of The Ghost and Molly McGee, and the forty-third episode overall.
It was released early on April 2, 2023 on Disney+, and had its official premiere on April 8, 2023 simultaneously on Disney Channel and Disney XD, alongside "Books Marks the Sprite".[1]
Synopsis
Darryl becomes a ghost for the day.[1]
Plot
Darryl is once again caught at school for drawing a large unflattering mural of Principal O'Connor on the side of the school. Pete and Sharon are called in and berate their son who is forced to wash the entire mural off the wall. However, just as Pete and Sharon leave, they begin to laugh and even commend the drawing for being audacious. Molly and Scratch approach Darryl with the former wondering why he can't just follow her easy steps of being good and do what she does. As a result, Darryl gets the idea to become a ghost like Molly did and have his soulless husk do all the work while he has fun. Molly reluctantly allows it to happen and Scratch separates Darryl's ghost self from his body.
Darryl has fun as a ghost and orders his body to continue the work which, true to his plan, ends up working quite well with his body even going so far as to take notes in class and helping others. Darryl and Scratch start pulling pranks and, despite promising Molly that it would only be until after school, Darryl refuses to return to his body. However, when he sees that Pete and Sharon commend and even reward Darryl's soulless self, Darryl feels perturbed and is even more saddened when Molly seemingly prefers soulless Darryl. He decides to run away, telling his body to leave and calling him "garbage", when he sees Pete and Sharon admit that Darryl doesn't feel the same and are regretful.
Realizing that his family still misses his old self, Darryl tries to reunite with his body, only to find out that it took the garbage insult literally and hopped into the back of a garbage truck. Darryl gives chase across town before finding his body being dumped onto a conveyor belt and nearly fall into an incinerator. Darryl frightens a worker to turn off the machine before reentering his body and becoming whole again. Darryl returns home where Molly and Scratch are relieved to see Darryl be back as one again while Pete and Sharon are happy to see Darryl acting like his old self. Molly suggests a new mantra to instead just imagine what she would do to stay out of trouble.
