Main Information

"All Systems No" is the second segment of the seventh episode of the first season of The Ghost and Molly McGee, and the fourteenth episode overall.

Synopsis

For one day Molly can say "yes" and Scratch can say "no".[2]

Plot

Molly has the entire Saturday off and wants to spend it with Scratch who is once again annoyed at having to do anything with her. Molly tells Scratch that he cannot go through life just saying "no", but he insists he can and tells her that she cannot say "yes" to everything. They decide to make it interesting and Scratch proceeds to curse themselves for 24 hours so that all he can say is "no" and all she can say is "yes". Meanwhile, Pete finds a bee flying around the house and tries to get rid of it. When the bee flies right into Scratch's nose and gets caught, he asks him to remove it outside the house, but due to the curse he tells him "no" and lets the bee go.

On the walk through Brighton, Molly tries to avoid an illusionist named Irving and reveals that she hates close up magic. Scratch forces her to watch him until Patty shows up and she agrees to taste her gumbo. The gumbo ends up being terrible and Molly is forced to say yes to a second serving. Back at home, the bees have gotten out of control and Sharon and Darryl call Grandma Nin who tells them that they cannot kill the bees as they are considered good luck. Molly later runs into Weird Larry who asks to help capture his skunk. While that happens, Scratch is called to the Ghost Council who invite him to join the Elite Ghost Society. Unfortunately, Scratch can only say "no" and is not offered it again.

Both Molly and Scratch admit that it is difficult to give only one answer and Scratch suggests flipping the curse, to which Molly agrees. She then says no to Weird Larry and they head home. Sharon and Darryl use blow dryers to get rid of the bees, but they become unplugged. Molly and Scratch work together to get rid of them (with Molly being asked a double negative) and successfully remove the bees.

Molly and Scratch stay in their room until midnight when the curse will be lifted. The two of them agree that the day was interesting, but in the final seconds, Molly asks Scratch to comb her hair. Scratch reluctantly does so, but he compliments Molly on her mischief.

Trivia

  • The title is based on the saying, All Systems Go.
  • The episode's title, along with "The Turnip Twist", was leaked online and later removed, only for them to replace "Game Night" and "The Don't-Gooder". This was done at the request of the crew after realizing that the episode created continuity problems.
    • One instance in continuity was that Molly's dislike of close-up magic was shown in "Scratch the Surface", and she reveals said dislike in this episode.
    • Ironically, the previous episode depicts the Ghost Council telling Scratch that he needs to raise the misery in Brighton, with the episode ending with this failing. However, in this episode the Ghost Council tells Scratch that he is doing a good job. Whether or not they were bluffing at the time in an attempt to break him has yet to be officially revealed.
  • For some strange reason, the episode was originally listed as "All Systems No 9" or "All Systems No 9th".
  • This episode reveals that Molly hates close up magic.
  • Grandma Nin explains that bees inside one's house is considered good luck. While this is part of Thai culture, other cultures have accepted this ideology as well. However, some also consider it bad luck.
  • This is the second time Scratch bestows a curse after "The Curse".
  • The magician is similar to Professor Hinkles from Frosty the Snowman.
