"100% Molly McGee" is the second segment of the eighth episode of the second season of The Ghost and Molly McGee, and the fifty-fourth episode overall.
It premiered on May 20, 2023 simultaneously on Disney Channel and Disney XD, alongside "The Unhaunting of Brighton Video".[1]
Synopsis
When Molly's Thai cousin visits, Molly questions whether she is "Asian enough" for her own family.[1]
Plot
Molly gives a presentation at school about her Thai family history and excitedly explains that her cousin Emmie and Uncle David are coming to visit. Upon returning home, she is happily greeted by her extended family and given gifts while Scratch is treated to some new Thai candy. However, when Emmie speaks full Thai to Molly, she cannot understand what she is saying as she only knows a few words. It is also implied that Sharon has trouble remembering certain words as well as the family enters the den. They begin to play Makruk (Thai chess) which Darryl seems adept at via the internet. Shortly afterwards, they try spicy foods, but Molly is incapable of withstanding it, which Sharon attributes to inheriting her tongue from Pete.
Molly starts to feel like she is not Thai enough and Scratch attempts to give her encouraging words of wisdom, though he comically fails. Instead, Molly decides to devote herself to studying Thai culture vigorously and trying to get as much of the language down. After her studying, she creates a dinner meal composed entirely of Thai food with everyone enjoying themselves. Unfortunately, Molly still has trouble keeping up with Emmi and David's Thai as they speak faster than what she can comprehend. Scratch attempts to aid her, but to no avail. When Pete tells a joke in perfect Thai, Molly feels defeated, declares that she is not Thai enough and goes upstairs.
Molly hides in her pile of stuffed animals while Scratch attempts to find another inspirational quote. Sharon comes up to check on Molly who tells her what has been going on with her. Sharon admits that she knows how she feels as she too began to feel that she lost much of her culture due to her Thai being rusty. As a result, David comes up to admit that his wife is from Thailand, but that he has never been there, Darryl explains that he wanted to learn Makruk so that he could feel encultured, while Grandma Nin explains that her sister called her "too American" after she moved to Los Angeles. Molly accepts that she is "100% Molly McGee" and embraces her family, except Nin who did not want to climb up into the attic.

Trivia
- Morals:
- Don't let your differences make you feel isolated from the rest of your family.
- Don't feel pressured to change yourself just to fit in; be yourself.
- Molly mentions the title of the episode near the end when she says, "I'm 100% Molly McGee!"
- Running Gag: Scratch tries finding an inspirational quote to cheer Molly up.
- This is the second episode in season 2 where Libby appears but has no lines. The first was "Davenport's on Demand".
- During the Thai conversation during the family meal, Grandma Nin mentioned Uncle David had once stolen a mango from their neighbor's tree and ended up falling into the pond and plucked by the neighbor's chicken. Uncle David also said he considers this experience as his childhood trauma.
- Scratch seems oddly knowledgeable about Makruk to the point he could identify who was winning in Darryl's game with Emmie, and had even taught the game to Molly during her culture cram. Since it has been believed that the dead play games similar to chess as far back in history as ancient Egypt and Greece, however, his ability to understand the game could just be common ghost knowledge.
- This episode premiered during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which actually fits with the episode's theme.
- In Disney+, this episode lacks the English subtitles when the McGees speak in Thai.
Revelations
- This episode reveals both Pete and Molly have low spice tolerance.
- Apparently, Mega City had been dug up from the yard after the events of "Game Night", as Molly suggested playing it with Emmie and Uncle David before the family settled with Makruk. Other games Molly suggested are I'm Not Sorry (this show's version of the board game "Sorry") and Famished, Famished Ferrets (a spin-off of "Hungry, Hungry Hippos")
- We also learn that Emmie and Uncle David live in New York, as Molly mentioned in her Thai heritage presentation.
Errors
- On television broadcast and on Hulu, Molly's line "I got Emmie. Is that count?" was mistakenly scripted as the same line to what Scratch said before her, "You getting any of this?", but it was later fixed in Disney+ version.
- When Molly comes in the house, she has her shoes on, then when Emmie was about to hug Molly, the former's shoes disappear.
